‘Sing’ Wins Summer Movie Night Contest at Lubbers Stadium

Animated comedy film will be shown on video board on June 27th

Grand Valley State Athletics announced the winner of its first-ever Summer Movie Night contest presented by PNC Bank, as the animated film Sing will be played on the video board in Lubbers Stadium on Tuesday, June 27th. The gates at Lubbers Stadium will open at 6:00 p.m., with the movie beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Sing emerged as the Summer Movie Night winner during a two-week online voting contest among other family-friendly movies such as The Lego Batman Movie and The Secret Life of Pets. The movie will air on the largest video board in Division II and the third-largest in the state of Michigan.

"GVSU Athletics is excited to be working with our partner PNC Bank to provide families in the area the opportunity to enjoy a free, quality, family-friendly film at Lubbers Stadium on the largest video board in NCAA Division II," explained Jared Alexander, Assistant Director of Athletics for Sales & Marketing.

With a runtime of one hour and 48 minutes, Sing is described on IMDB.com: "Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Buster Moon, a dapper koala, presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal-some, might even say delusional-optimist, who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now faced with the crumbling of his life's ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world's greatest singing competition."

Admission is free to the public and the first 1,000 fans will receive a GVSU fleece blanket, courtesy of PNC Bank, the official bank of GVSU Athletics.

When entering Lubbers Stadium, guests can choose to sit on the actual game field or on the west side (home side) or the south side (student section) of the stadium. The north side/grass berm and the east side (visitor's side) of the stadium will be closed.

Concessions will be served, but no food or drink will be allowed on the field. Alcohol will not be permitted. Bags are welcomed, but will be searched prior to entrance to the stadium. Only blankets and pillows will be allowed onto the game field surface. Bags, food and drinks, all sprays (sunscreen/bug spray), coolers, strollers, walkers, wagons, and wheelchairs will not be permitted down on the game field and will need to remain in the stands for the duration of the event. Pets are also not permitted in Lubbers Stadium.

Free parking will be available in Lot B1 or Lot B2. All handicapped guests can park in Lot A, which is adjacent to the stadium. Lot C and Lot C West will be used for overflow parking, if needed. Tailgating on campus is prohibited.

After the Summer Movie Night, the next major event for GVSU in Lubbers Stadium will be the 2017 football home opener on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7:00 p.m. against Davenport. It will be 'Laker Blue Night' at the contest against the crosstown Panthers, with all fans encouraged to wear blue to show the support for Grand Valley State.

Football season tickets for the 2017 campaign are now on sale and can be purchased by calling the GVSU Athletic Ticket Office at 616-331-3200 or visiting gvsutickets.com.
