For the second week in a row, GVSU sophomore
Allison Lipovsky was named the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday (Apr. 10) for her efforts during the Lakers' 4-0 weekend in Allendale. The righthander was outstanding in the circle for Grand Valley State, as she tossed back-to-back shutouts and did not allow an extra base hit during her two victories.
Â
In winning the award last Monday (Apr. 3), Lipovsky allowed only two earned runs on 12 hits in 20.0 innings of work, going 2-1 with a 0.70 ERA. Her only loss was a 1-0 defeat to #18 Wayne State. It may be hard to believe, but the reigning GLIAC Freshman of the Year was even better this past weekend at home.
Â
On Saturday against Findlay, Lipovsky dealt a complete game four-hitter, as she issued three walks and struck out seven Oilers on 115 pitches. The Lakers topped UF by a 6-0 final in the opener. Lipovsky came back in game one on Sunday to throw an eight-inning three-hit shutout against Tiffin, recording 11 strikeouts without issuing a walk as GVSU earned a 1-0 walk-off victory. She tossed an even 100 pitches in the win.
Â
For the weekend, the righty went 2-0 and threw 15.0 innings, giving up only seven hits - all of which were singles. She totaled just three walks and 18 strikeouts in the two victories. At 7-3 overall, Lipovsky's ERA dipped to 1.45, the second-best in the GLIAC. She also leads all league pitchers in strikeouts per game (7.72), is second in opponents batting average (.165), and third in strikeouts (96).
Â
Lipovsky has thrown 10 complete games, with five of those registering as shutouts; her five shutouts are second-most in the conference. She has recorded all these strong numbers in only 87.0 innings, 12th-most of any pitcher in the league.
Â
The weekend sweep for Grand Valley State has the Lakers at 17-15 on the year and 7-5 in GLIAC play. In its last 10 games, GVSU is 8-2. This week, the Lakers are at Saint Joseph's (Tuesday), Northwood (Friday), and Saginaw Valley State (Saturday) before returning home for four consecutive twinbills in Allendale.
