Andrasik, Supernaw Named GLIAC Pitcher and Player of the Week

Pair of seniors closed out regular season with an 8-0 week in Allendale

Two Laker seniors played their final regular season games in Allendale over the weekend and both players earned GLIAC weekly honors for their performances in Grand Valley State's 8-0 week. Righthander Sara Andrasik and first baseman McKenze Supernaw were named the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week and GLIAC Player of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday (Apr. 25).

Playing four GLIAC doubleheaders in a six-day span to close out the regular season, GVSU went on quite a run by winning all eight games during the week and outscoring its opponents by a 54-11 margin. The eight victories extend Grand Valley State's win streak to 13 straight games, as the Lakers finished the regular season with a 36-8 overall record and a 21-5 mark in conference play, clinching second place in the upcoming league tournament.

Supernaw had a tremendous week, posting a .560 batting average, a .556 on-base percentage, and an outstanding 1.160 slugging percentage. She recorded 14 hits in eight games, notching three doubles, four home runs, and 14 RBI to go along with 29 total bases. She collected two or more hits in five games and drove in at least one run in seven of the eight contests, including four efforts of multiple RBI.

On Tuesday (Apr. 19), she opened the week by going 5-for-7 against Lake Superior State, including a game one performance of 3-for-4 with two homers, two runs scored, and three RBI. Against Walsh on Saturday (Apr. 23), Supernaw took full advantage of Senior Day by combining to go 5-for-6 with a double, a home run, and five ribbies, while smashing a clutch three-run homer late in the 7-3 game two victory. She homered again on Sunday (Apr. 24) against Hillsdale and drove in three runs, as the Lakers swept the Chargers to clinch the second seed in the GLIAC Tournament.

Supernaw finished the regular season ranked third in the conference in home runs (seven), fourth in doubles (13), and ninth in RBI (35).

Andrasik had a memorable final week in Allendale, as well. She was 2-0 with a save and a 0.44 earned run average in 16.0 innings in the circle. In total, she allowed one run on nine hits, walking one batter and notching 13 strikeouts.

She tossed a complete game three-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Malone, striking out seven Pioneers and not issuing a walk. Andrasik came back the next day to throw a complete game six-hitter, allowing her only run of the week in the Lakers' 5-1 victory over Walsh. Lastly, she closed out her home career by tossing a pair of hitless innings, striking out two batters, and earning the save in a 3-0 win over Hillsdaale on Sunday.

Andrasik closed the regular season ranked third in the GLIAC in saves (three), fifth in shutouts (three), sixth in wins (12), and 10th in earned run average (2.08).

It was the first GLIAC weekly honor for both Andrasik and Supernaw during their careers. This was just the second time all season that one team has received both of the league's top weekly honors in the same week.

GVSU will face seventh-seeded Findlay in the opening round of the conference tournament on Friday (Apr. 29) at noon in Findlay, Ohio.
