D2CCA All-Midwest Region Teams

Grand Valley State sophomore middle blocker Staci Brower was named to the D2CCA All-Midwest Region Second Team on Tuesday (Nov. 29) in voting conducted by the sports information directors in the Midwest Region. Brower was one of the two middle blockers on the Second Team and part of the 14-player group honored with the all-region recognition.

After leading GVSU in total blocks, blocks per set, and solo blocks en route to GLIAC Freshman of the Year honors last season, Brower did the same in 2016, while also leading the Lakers in block assists. Her 119 total blocks, 85 block assists, 34 solo rejections, and 1.10 blocks per set were all team-highs. In just two seasons, Brower has 66 solo blocks, which is already the fifth-highest total of any Laker during the 'Rally Scoring' era (2001 to present).

She finished second in the GLIAC with 34 solo blocks, third with 1.10 blocks per set, fourth 119 total rejections, and seventh with 85 block assists. In GLIAC regular season play, she was second in blocks per set (1.17), third in solo rejections (20), fourth in total blocks (74), and fifth in block assists (54).

Offensively, Brower hit .290 - leading all GVSU hitters - and notched 315 kills, while adding 49 digs, and 10 service aces. She posted 10 or more kills in 18 matches and also recorded four or more blocks in 18 matches this season. Brower was one of just three GLIAC players this season to top the 300-kill and 100-block totals for the year.

She was named to the All-GLIAC First Team for the second year in a row and is just the 16th player in Grand Valley State history to accomplish that feat.

Brower was one of eight GLIAC players voted to the D2CCA (Division II Conference Commissioner's Association) First or Second Teams. She was joined on the Second Team by Ferris State outside hitter Allyson Cappel, Ohio Dominican outside hitter Tory Thompson, and Tiffin libero Taylor Lattimore.

Findlay senior outside hitter Hannah Tong was voted the Midwest Region Player of the Year. Tong was a First Team honoree, along with Ashland outside hitter Alli Cudworth, Tiffin middle blocker Jenna Huffman, and Ferris State setter Stephanie Sikorski.
