NFCA Division II All-Region TeamsGVSU junior
McKenze Supernaw was one of 28 players named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region Team late Thursday (May 14) in a release from the national organization. The third baseman was a Midwest Region Second Team honoree, her first such honor.
Supernaw was chosen by coaches in the Midwest Region as one of two third baseman on the Second Team. She was named to the Second Team along with Missouri-St. Louis third baseman Jennah Perryman.
An All-GLIAC Second Team selection, Supernaw had a breakthrough year at the hot corner for the 32-17 Lakers, who returned to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season. In starting all 49 games at third base, she hit .325 with 10 doubles, six home runs, and 35 RBI. Supernaw collected 51 hits, scored 17 runs, and owned a .516 slugging percentage.
Her home run total was tied for the team lead and she ranked second on GVSU in both RBI, total bases (81), and slugging percentage. Defensively, Supernaw had a strong junior season, owning a .958 fielding percentage and making just six errors in 143 total chances.
Supernaw's 10 doubles in 2015 equaled her output from her first two seasons in Allendale, while she tripled her home run total and more than doubled her RBI count from her first two years.
The breakout performance for Supernaw came on Apr. 7 in a home doubleheader against Lake Superior State. In game one, the junior went 5-for-5 with a double, two home runs, and seven RBI. She became just the third Laker since at least 2000 to go 5-for-5 in a game and the first to record at least one extra base hit in the same performance. Dating back to 2000, her seven RBI and 12 total bases are both single game school records.
