Allendale, Mich. - Tim Selgo, the Director of Athletics at Grand Valley State, announced the hiring of Keri Becker as Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator. Becker, who most recently was the head softball coach and senior women's administrator at Ferris State, will officially begin her duties at Grand Valley State on August 8, 2011.
"We are pleased to have Keri join the Grand Valley State athletic department," said Selgo. "Keri gained valuable experience at Ferris State both as a coach and an administrator and we look forward to her building on those experiences at Grand Valley State."
Becker, who just completed her 14th year as head softball coach at Ferris State, compiled a career mark of 433-276-1. She guided FSU to one Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season crown (2000), three GLIAC Tournament titles (1999, 2000, 2005) and three NCAA DII Great Lakes Regional crowns (1998, 1999, 2008). The Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA DII Softball National Championships three times during her career. In addition, Keri was named the GLIAC Coach of the Year three times.
"I am both honored and excited about the opportunity to work with the Laker team," stated Becker. "The commitment to the athletic and academic achievement of their student-athletes, as well as their everyday quest for excellence, is second to none. I look forward to sharing in the continued success of Laker Athletics by embracing its strong work ethic and unwavering dedication to the student-athlete."
Becker serves as a member of the National Championship Softball Committee and is chair of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Ranking Committee. She also holds membership in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Prior to being called to active duty in 2003, Becker served eight years (1992-00) in the United States Army Reserve and held the rank of sergeant.
Before her arrival at Ferris, Becker served two seasons (1995-96) as an assistant coach at Saginaw Valley State University. As a student-athlete at SVSU, Becker enjoyed a stellar softball career for the Cardinals in which she received all-conference first-team honors four straight seasons and was a two-time academic all-league selection as a four-year starter.
Keri graduated from Saginaw Valley State in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. She earned her Master's degree in Business Administration from Ferris State in 2009.
