Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State athletics is pleased to announce the unveiling of its latest endeavor, a new digital media center termed the Wheelhouse. The Wheelhouse will be the informational hub for all Grand Valley State athletics and a central location for social media activities.
Located in the Fieldhouse on the GVSU campus, the Wheelhouse digital media center is energized by Mountain Dew, aided by the school's partnership with the Pepsi Bottling Company. The Wheelhouse is home to gvsulakers.com and GVSU's mobile app, and all of the official social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube, among others.
The Wheelhouse will be a new way for Laker athletics to deliver news of the Grand Valley State athletics program through its social media sites and gvsulakers.com, the official site of Grand Valley State athletics.
"We are in a new age in today's world of media and the Wheelhouse is an extension of how the profession is changing", explained Tim Nott, Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations. "We must incorporate the new age of the social media scene with the conventional wisdom of media relations. Our goal is to mesh the old school and new school ways of promoting Grand Valley State athletics and its student-athletes."
With four HD flat-screen televisions, the Wheelhouse has a television newsroom feel which allows for constant surveillance of all the happenings in the sports world. This includes live coverage of the GVSU twitter page (@gvsulakers) and items relating to the #gogvsu hashtag.
"The Wheelhouse will integrate all of our digital media mediums in one place and allow us to distribute GVSU athletics information the way our fans want it," said Doug Lipinski, Associate Athletic Director for Marketing.
There will be unique coverage of certain Grand Valley State sporting events throughout the athletic year through the various forms of social media. Inside the Wheelhouse, along with the televisions and newsroom-like atmosphere, there is a refrigerator stocked full of PepsiCo products, including Mountain Dew and the new energy drink, Kickstart.
"We are excited to partner with Pepsi and their Mountain Dew brand," Lipinski commented. "The promotional sponsorship will energize the Wheelhouse and will give our fans some great promotions this fall."
"When we heard what GVSU athletics was planning with the Wheelhouse concept, we jumped at the chance to partner with them," said Dave Vander Roest, Key Account Manager for PepsiCo Foodservice. "Grand Valley State athletics has set a standard for excellence and we are excited to be a part of it."
Throughout the Wheelhouse, various accomplishments of Laker athletics are highlighted and showcased, including one wall that features banners of the 14 Grand Valley State teams that have won Division II National Championships.
GVSU athletics would like to thank Pepsi and Modern Office for their assistance in helping to create the Wheelhouse. Stay tuned for promotional activities, special marketing events, and other partnerships from the Wheelhouse in the future.
