Grand Valley State cross country and track and field head coach Jerry Baltes announced the signing of Rebecca Winchester to attend GVSU as a student-athlete for the 2006-07. Winchester attends Thornapple Kellogg High School in Middleville, Mich.

Winchester recently finished seventh at the Division 2 MHSAA state meet in a time of 18:26.1.

In the 2005 track and field season, she finished sixth in the, 1600 meter run at the Division 2 MHSAA state finals in a time of 5:05.40 and then finished sixth in the 800 meter with a time 2:15.13. She also helped her 4x400 relay team win the state championship title in a time of 4:02.83.

"We are very excited to have an opportunity to have Rebecca as a GVSU student-athlete," said Baltes. "She is a very well rounded student-athlete that has great turnover in the shorter races, along with great strength on the cross country course."

"Most importantly, Rebecca is a great person that will fit in well with our group of young ladies," added Baltes. "We are looking forward to helping her reach her potential as a student, athlete, and as a person over the next few years."
