New Orleans, La. - Grand Valley State's men's and women's cross country teams were honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with the All-Academic Team award on Monday (March 8).
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade-point average.
The women's team compiled a team GPA of 3.40 and won its ninth consecutive Midwest Regional Championship this season. At nationals the team finished in second place and had five-runners finish in the top-40, earning all-american honors.
The men's team compiled a team GPA of 3.08 and won its eighth straight Midwest Regional Championship. The Lakers finished fifth at the 2009 Cross Country Championships with two athletes finishing in the top-40 earning all-american honors.
