Grand Valley State's women's cross country team placed fourth at the NCAA Division National Championships on Saturday. It was the fourth straight year the Lakers have placed in the top five. GVSU recorded 171 points, while Adams State won the title with 31 points.
Leading the way for the Lakers was junior Mandi Zemba who finished in 14th place overall with a time of 22:42.7. Freshman Karlie Singleton took 27th overall (23:12.7) and senior Krista O'Dell ran a 23:15.0 for 29th place. Junior Adrian Chouinard placed 41st, running a 23:25.6, while sophomore Sara Jaquith took 60th with a time of 23:54.4. Senior Diana Painter placed 62nd with a time 23:57.6 and freshman Bridgette Beeny finished 83rd (24:17.5).
The Lakers finished third at the Championships in 2002 and 2003 and fifth in 1999 and 2001.
