Edwardsville, Ill. - Five Grand Valley State University runners finished in five consecutive positions in the top 10 to advance the Lakers to the NCAA National Championships. GVSU has now won seven consecutive regional championships in women's cross country and will race next on Nov. 17 in Joplin, Mo. at the NCAA Natonal Championships.

Kelly Gibbons was the top finisher for GVSU, crossing the finish line in 21:43.85 to finish sixth in the 6,000-meter event. Although the Lakers did not have any runners finish in the top 10, they had runners finish in positions six, seven, eight, nine and ten in order to advance to the National Championship.

Suzie Rivard finished just nine seconds behind her in seventh with a time of 21:52.77. Megan Maceratini, Lori Burgess and Leah Borns rounded out the scorers for Grand Valley State University. Their final times were 21:54.47, 22:02.35 and 22:04.36, respectively.

Lynsey Ardingo and Rebecca Winchester also ran well for Grand Valley State University, finishing in 12th and 13th place. Ardingo's time of 22:07.83 was four seconds ahead of Winchester's 22:11.97.

GVSU's team score of 40 was well ahead of second-place Wayne State, who finished with a score of 117. GVSU's average time was 21:55.56, while WSU's average timewas 22:35.84.
