Grand Valley State won both the men's and women's GLIAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday. The men's team tallied 35 points, a 25-point lead over Wayne State, while the women won with 27 points, a 69-edge over Northern Michigan.
Natalie Ewing won the women's race with a time of 21:46.2 and earned GLIAC Women's Runner of the Year and First-Team All-Conference honors for her performance. Kara Egan finished in second place with a time of 21:53.4 and Krista O'Dell took third, running in 22:06.5.
Megan Doerr recorded a ninth place finish with a time of 22:32.4, Steph Sliwinski finished in 12th place (22:39.1) and Adrian Chouinard was right behind her in 13th (22:39.5).
On the men's side, Mark Terpstra finished in second place overall with a time of 25:08.6. Blake Terhune was fourth (25:14.3), Chris Pabst took fifth (25:15.6), and Jeff Vyain finished in sixth place with a time of 25:17.6. Pabst earned GLIAC Men's Freshman Runner of the Year honors for his success in his first season with the Lakers. Casey Abston rounded out the scoring for the Lakers with a 18th place finish in a time of 25:49.9.
Head coach Jerry Baltes was named both GLIAC Men's and Women's Coach of the Year for leading the Lakers to another successful cross country season.
