Results

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State won the 4K event and finished second in the 6K at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships at Kensington Park in Ann Arbor on Friday (Oct. 11). The Lakers finished with four runners in the top six for a total of 14 to take the 4K over Central Michigan, University of Michigan, and Eastern Michigan. Shannon Antvelink won the race with a time of 15:01.3. The Lakers also had a team finish second in the 6K event with a total of 53 points behind only Wayne State who finished with 47 points.

Antvelink won her second race of the year after also winning the Pre-Regional at Rolling Hills on Sept. 20. Mandi Long, and Jeannette Seckinger finished third and fourth, respectively in the 4K. Long was fractions of a second out of the second place with a time of 15:14.8 while Seckinger finished just ahead of the next two runners with a time of 15:22.4. Freshman Kara Egan was one of the two just behind Seckinger, finishing in 15:22.8 in sixth place. Also running for the Lakers in the 4K were Jen Verkerke and Amber Sebasta who placed 27th and 39th respectively.

Rebecca Winters led the Lakers in the 6K event finishing third with a time of 22:36.7. Steph Sliwinki and Leanne Budde also finished in the top 10 with times of 23:07.1 and 23:07.5 for ninth and tenth respectively. Krista O'Dell placed 12th at 23:12.6 and Megan Doerr was 19th at 23:44.2. Julie Martin finished in 22nd with a time of 23:56.7.
 

 

GVSU has a week off before trying to defend their conference title at the GLIAC Championships on Oct. 26 which will also be held at Kensington Park.
