Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's cross country team took home a first-place finish at the Michigan Intercollegiates in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Friday afternoon (Oct. 9). GVSU totaled a team score of 16 points, easily outdistancing Calvin College (47), Hillsdale (130), Western Michigan (135), and Michigan State (139).
GVSU runners took the top-four spots and placed seven in the top-11, The Lakers were led by junior Megan Maceratini who won the race with a time of 17:58. Junior Katherine McCarthy placed second with a time of 18:03, followed by senior Eileen Creutz (18:04) and junior Amy Kolin in fourth (18:05). Sophomores Julia Nowak crossed the finish line sixth with a time of 18:24 and Jessie Vickers finished 10th (18:36) followed by senior Lynsey Ardingo in 11th (18:38).
The Lakers' team score was 1:30:34 and they had an average time of 18:07, more than 20 seconds faster than their nearest competition, Calvin College. Grand Valley State will compete at the GLIAC Championship on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Saginaw, Mich. at 11:00 a.m.
