Grand Valley State's women's cross country team dominated the Michigan Intercollegiates hosted by Oakland University on Friday, Oct.7. GVSU tied for first place in the 4K and won the 6K.
Grand Valley tallied 23 points in the 4K, tying for first place with the University of Michigan. Central Michigan finished in third place with 72 points.
All four runners for Grand Valley who scored points finished in the top 14 spots. The Lakers were led by senior Mandi Zemba who won the race in a time of 13:36.1. Sophomore Karlie Singleton placed third overall, running a 14:04.8, while senior Adrian Chouinard finished in fifth place (14:14.8). Redshirt freshman Kelly Gibbons ran a 14:40.9 for 14th place.
Junior Lauren Bader placed 15th with a 14:45.2 and sophomore Susie Rivard tallied a 28th place finish as she ran a 15:00.9.
The Lakers won the 6K run with 32 points, 22 points lower than second place Ferris State. Junior Stacey Kandas finished in second place overall with a time of 22:03.9, while redshirt freshman Laura Aderman placed third, running 22:17.0. Sophomore Ashley Wharton ran a 22:33.7 for sixth place and sophomore Stephanie Kandas finished eighth (22:52.6).
Sophomore Rosanna Chapman placed 13th (23:28.8), redshirt freshman Megan Soltis finished in a time of 23:30.9 for 15th place, and redshirt freshman Sarah Kulczycki ran a 23:40.8 for 18th place.
