Results

Grand Valley State's women's cross country team dominated the Michigan Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships held in Big Rapids, Mich. The Lakers won the 4K race with 24 points, 26 points ahead of second place Calvin. GVSU also won the 6K race with 40 points, six points ahead of second place Central Michigan. Both meets consisted of Division I and Division II schools.

In the 4K race, sophomore Laura Aderman led the pack as she captured her second straight individual title. She won the race in a time of 14:10.4. Graduate student Stacey Kandas finished in fourth place in a time of 14:27.9, while junior Susie Rivard came in right behind her in a time of 14:28.9 for fifth place. Sophomore Kelly Gibbons ran a time of 14:59.5 for 14th place, junior Meggie Grube took 54th (15:51.5), and Jennifer O'Shesky finished in a time of 17:58.5.

In the 6K race, freshman Leah Borns finished first for the Lakers and third overall with a time of 19:16.4. Jessica Foster ran a 19:32.1 for sixth place, junior Ashley Wharton took ninth (19:37.7), and junior Sarah Jaquith placed 10th (19:46.9). Junior Bridgette Beeny took 12th, running a 19:55.2, freshman Lynsey Ardingo ran a 19:57.6 for 13th place, and sophomore Sarah Kulczycki rounded out the Lakers, finishing 16th (20:12.7).
 

 

"We were able to get two wins by splitting our squads for the 4K and 6K races, along with holding out a couple of ladies are we try to get them 100% healthy," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "This again shows the quality of our depth on the women's side. We are very proud of being able to capture the team title in both race. We are excited for the reminder of the season."

The Lakers will run in the GLIAC Championship in Findlay, Ohio on Oct. 21.
