Final Stats

Rochester, Mich. - Grand Valley State received strong performances in both the 4k and 6k events and won both at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships in Rochester, Mich. Susie Rivard and Amy Kolin won the separate races, giving the #3 Lakers two first-place team finishes.

In the 4k event, Rivard finished second with a time of 14:31.4. Kelly Gibbons was right behind her with a fourth-place finish, crossing the teap with a time of 14:42.3. Megan Maceratini, Katherine McCarthy, Lori Burgess and Leah Borns all finished in the top 10 for the Lakers.

Maceratini finished fifth with a time of 14:44.2, just two second behind Gibbons. McCarthy was just one more second back, finishing sixth with a time of 14:45.2. Burgess and Borns finished seventh and eighth, respectively, crossing the finish line with times of 14:52.5 and 14:54.1.

Grand Valley finished with a team score of 17 in the 4k, just six points ahead of Calvin College. GVSU's average time of 14:40.7 was just five seconds ahead of second place.

In the 6k run, Grand Valley got top 10 finishes from Kolin and Jessie Vickers to power them to a first place victory. Kolin was the top Laker in the race, finishing in sixth place with a time of 23:55.5. Vickers finished ninth with a time of 24:09.1. Sara Parks, Rosanna Chapman and Sarah Kulczycki rounded out the point-scorers for GVSU. Parks finished 10th with a time of 24:20.2. Chapman was the 13th person across the tape in the collegiate division with a time of 24:13.3, and Kulczycki was 23rd with a time of 25:00.6.
 

 

GVSU's team score of 61 was just seven points ahead of second place Wayne State.

The women will run next at the GLIAC Championships in Erie, Pa. The meet is on Oct. 20 and gets underway at 11 a.m .
