Grand Valley State's women's cross country team had an outstanding performance as they finished eighth against all DI schools at the Great American Cross Country Festival. GVSU was the only DII school invited to run in the Nike Race of Champions.

Natalie Ewing finished first for the Lakers and 31st overall with a time of 18:50.9, Kara Egan recorded a 18:56.3 for 35th place, and Krista O'Dell ran a 19:05.1 for 39th place. Megan Doerr ran the race in 19:20.1 for 46th place, Jeannette Seckinger took 51st place with a time of 19:22.4, and Steph Sliwinski rounded out the scoring for the Lakers, finishing in 62nd place with a time of 19:33.5.

GVSU tallied 202 points for eighth place. North Carolina State University, ranked #14 in DI, won the race with 45 points. Grand Valley is ranked #3 in the DII poll.
