Grand Valley State's women's cross country team won the Bulldog Invite with 31 points Friday night. The meet was hosted by Ferris State University. The Lakers will run in the Sean Earl Invite on Sept. 30 in Chicago, Ill.
Leading the way for GVSU, was Kelly Gibbons who finished in second place overall with a time of 18:58.00, while Sarah Jaquith took third place, running a 18:59.00. Sarah Kulczycki placed seventh as she finished in a time of 19:15.00 and Bridgette Beeny ran a time of 19:30.00 for 13th place. Pam Friday finished in 16th place in a time of 19:40.00, Marie Dwarshuis took 21st place with a time of 20:04.00, and Gabby Gutierrez ran a 20:15.00.
"This was a great win for our women," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "It really shows the depth of our team. We sat out the top 12 women and still were able to come away with a win. We had some ladies really step up and make some nice break throughs."
"The Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invite is a big meet for us as we will go against some of the best teams in the midwest," added Baltes. "We are very excited to see how much our fitness has improved over the last two weeks."
