Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State was very impressive at the Great Lakes Pre-Regional that the Lakers hosted at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Hudsonville, Mich. on Friday (Sept. 20). GVSU athletes, who are ranked #4 in the latest top 25, took the top seven spots of the race and 12 of the top 16. GVSU's Shannon Antvelink placed first with a personal-best time of 18:30.03, while Natalie Ewing was right behind her. No team scores were kept for the race. Grand Valley State will host the NCAA Great Lakes Regional at the same course on November 9, 2002.
Three more Lakers broke the 19:00 mark including Mandi Long (18:43.75), Kara Egan (18:46.99), and Jeannette Seckinger (18:54.80). Finishing out the top seven were Leanne Budde, and Steph Sliwinski. Diana Martin, and Lisa Fishel finished ran unattached and finished eighth and ninth, respectively.
The Lakers next race is on October 5 where they will try and defend their title at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Ill.
