Hillsdale, Mich. - Senior Danielle Alexander was voted to the 2008 Daktronics, Inc. All-America First Team, released on Friday (Dec. 5), as voted on by Division II Sports Information Directors. This is the second national award that Alexander received in the postseason, as she also earned AVCA First Team All-America honors.

After being voted the Midwest Region Player of the Year on Nov. 24, Alexander was automatically entered into the balloting for the Daktronics All-America teams, which featured 22 players split amongst three teams. Alexander was a first-team selection, joining 2008 National Player of the Year Maggie McNamara and Whitney Meierotto from Concordia-St. Paul and Jessica Granados from Cal State San Bernardino. All four of these players played in the NCAA Final Four this past weekend.

Named to the AVCA All-America Third Team in 2007, Alexander was chosen as an AVCA First-Team All-America honoree, as well as being the fourth player in program history to be named the GLIAC Player of the Year and the first since 2003. She was named to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team twice in her career and to the All-Regional Tournament Team on two occasions. Alexander also earned first team All-GLIAC prestige in 2007 and 2008 and was an All-Midwest Region selection in both years.

The senior middle blocker from Newport, Mich. earned GLIAC North Division Player of the Week awards three times this season and six times during her career. On Oct. 27, Alexander also became the first player in GVSU history to be named the AVCA Division II National Player of the Week.

For her career, Alexander ranks in the top-10 in four categories in Laker history. She is first in block assists (383), third in total blocks (445), ninth in hitting percentage (.305), and 10th in kills (1,160). She is fourth in block assists in a single-season in GVSU history with 138 assisted blocks this season.
