Lexington, Ky. - Grand Valley State junior middle blocker Rebeccah Rapin picked up a pair of awards earlier in the week, as she was named to the All-Midwest Region team, selected by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Rapin also earned AVCA honorable mention All-American laurels after leading the Lakers in kills, hitting percentage, total blocks, and solo blocks.
Rapin is one of 14 players from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) to be named to the All-Midwest Region team. There were eight players from the GLVC named to the team, as six GLIAC players earned all-region recognition. Rapin was joined on the team by Ferris State's Arielle Goodson, Saginaw Valley State's Kait Harris, and Hillsdale's trio of Ashlee Crowder, Sydney Dow, and Clara Leutheuser.
The 6-1 middle blocker led Grand Valley State with 327 kills, a .275 hitting percentage, 115 total blocks, and 22 solo rejections. She ranked fifth in the GLIAC in total blocks and blocks per set (1.08), seventh in hitting percentage, and ninth in kills per set (3.08). It was the third straight season she has surpassed 300 kills, giving her 984 during her three-year career.
Rapin ranks seventh all-time in GVSU history in block assists (323), ninth in total blocks (385), and ninth in hitting percentage (.307). She needs 177 kills to enter the top-10 in Laker history in all-time kills.
As far as the All-America teams, Rapin is one of nine players from the Midwest Region to earn All-America status, as four other players from the region were tabbed as Honorable Mention All-Americans. It was Rapin's first All-America selection. Grand Valley State has had a player on the AVCA All-America team every year since 2004 and the Lakers have garnered 17 All-America citations, with 16 of those awards coming since 2000.
The awards add to Rapin's long list of postseason achievements. In November, she was named to the All-GLIAC First Team for the second straight season and is the 14th GVSU player to earn that distinction. In 2008, she was also named to the Daktronics All-Midwest Region Second Team, which followed a tremendous freshman season in 2007. Rapin was tabbed both the GLIAC and Great Lakes Region Freshman of the Year and was named to the GLIAC, Great Lakes Region, and Elite Eight All-Tournament Teams.
