Junior Tracy Kirk earned 2004 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Great Lakes Region honors after her outstanding play during the 2004 season. Kirk averaged 3.55 kills, 0.92 blocks, and tallied a .334 hitting percentage on the season. Tracy was also named to the 2004 Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region First Team.

Sophomore Megan Helsen was named to the 2004 AVCA Great Lakes Region Honorable Mention team after averaging 3.03 digs, 2.63 kills, and 56 service aces in 2004.

The Lakers have made five consecutive NCAA Division II tournament appearances, including four straight regional tournament titles and three consecutive NCAA Semifinal appearances. GVSU has won three GLIAC Championship titles and finished in second place in the GLIAC Tournament the last three years.

This season the Lakers captured to a GLIAC regular season championship, but fell to Ferris State in the GLIAC Tournament Championship match. GVSU dropped a 3-1 decision to Northern Michigan in the Great Lakes Regional Championship to end the season with a 27-7 overall and 16-2 GLIAC record.
