Nov. 24, 2008

Whitney Tremain earned GVSU Student-Athlete of the Week honors for her play in the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament this past weekend. GVSU won three games throughout the three day stretch to claim the regional championship trophy. The Lakers faced second-seeded Saginaw Valley State in the regional final and rallied to win three straight sets after dropping the first to claim the victory. Whitney Tremain was named the tournament MVP.

Tremain had a team-high .403 hitting percentage which led to 32 kills over the weekend. The 32 kills ranked second on the team during the first three games of the tournament, despite having the third most attack attempts. GVSU's front line played a key role in the success over the weekend as the Lakers out-blocked their opponents 28-16. Tremain finished the weekend with 12 total blocks to add to her offensive performance.
