Deanne Scanlon was named the 2005 Tachikara/AVCA DII Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year for leading the Lakers to an overall 29-6 record and their fifth trip to the National Championships. Scanlon earned the award three straight times in 2001-03.

Scanlon led the Lakers to GVSU's third-ever GLIAC Tournament Championship title and its first since 2002. She also led GVSU to its fifth Great Lakes Regional Championship with a 3-0 sweep over Rockhurst Saturday.

Deanne has led the Lakers to the school's eighth straight 20+ win season (29-6). In her 11 years at the helm of GVSU, she has tallied a 291-90 (.764) overall record, while compiling a 157-44 (.781) GLIAC record.

Scanlon began the 2005 season as the 12th winningest active coach in Division II. Deanne was also named the GLIAC Coach of the Year this season for the second time in her career.
