Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State earned the #6 seed in this weekend's Midwest Regional Volleyball Tournament, which will be held at the University of Indianapolis from Nov. 19-21. The Lakers will be paired up with GLIAC rival, Saginaw Valley State, on Thursday (Nov. 19), as the seeds were announced late Sunday night. GVSU and the Cardinals will meet up in the tournament's first match and play at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
The teams split their two meetings this season, with GVSU winning at home against the Cardinals, 3-0, on Sept. 26. Saginaw Valley State, the #3 seed, earned revenge on Oct. 31 with a 3-0 victory in University Center, Mich. to even the season series. The Cardinals dropped a five-set decision to Hillsdale on Sunday (Nov. 15) in the GLIAC championship match.
Here is a look at the 2009 Midwest Regional Tournament field:
Quarterfinal 1: #3 Saginaw Valley State (21-9) vs. #6 Grand Valley State (16-12), 12:00 p.m.
Quarterfinal 2: #2 Lewis (27-4) vs. #7 Ferris State (18-11), 2:30 p.m.
Quarterfinal 3: #4 Northern Michigan (18-11) vs. #5 Hillsdale (23-7), 5:00 p.m.
Quarterfinal 4: #1 Indianapolis (32-1) vs. #8 Michigan Tech (14-14), 7:30 p.m.
The semifinal matches will be played on Friday (Nov. 20). The winner of Quarterfinal 1 will play the winner of the Quarterfinal 2 match at 5:00 p.m., while the winners of Quarterfinal 3 and Quarterfinal 4 will match up at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's (Nov. 21) regional championship match will be played at 3:00 p.m. All matches will be played at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.
