Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State had six players honored with All-GLIAC awards for their play this season. Nicole Bayle and Carly Miller earned First Team plaudits, while Sabrina Bird, Chara Fehsenfeld, and Traci Skrzypek were named to the Second Team and Elisa Joris earned honorable mention recognition. Fehsenfeld also earned Verizon Academic All-Region honors for her work in the classroom and on the court. The Lakers are 27-2 on the season and are ranked fifth in the country.
Miller was named All-GLIAC for the fourth straight season. This is the third time Miller has earned First Team plaudits, and last season Carly was named GLIAC Player of the Year. Miller ranks third in the conference in kills per game averaging 4.21 per game with a .330 attack percentage.
Bayle earned First Team honors for the first time in her career. Last year Bayle was named Second Team All-GLIAC in her first year at the setter's position. Nicole ranks fourth in the conference in assists with 11.73 per game.
Fehsenfeld was recognized by Verizon for her academics for the third straight year. Chara holds a 3.99 GPA in biology and also leads the Lakers in digs averaging 3.82 a game. Fehsenfeld will now be on the national ballot for the All-American award which she has earned the last two seasons.
Bird and Skryzpek earned All-GLIAC plaudits for the second year in a row while Joris was named to the conference team for the first time in her career.
