Bay City, Mich. - Three Grand Valley State volleyball players were named to the 2009 All-GLIAC Team, as released by the league offices on Thursday (Nov. 12). For the second straight season, junior middle blocker Rebeccah Rapin was named to the All-GLIAC First Team, while seniors Whitney Tremain and Katey Crichton earned Second Team and Honorable Mention all-conference awards, respectively.
Rapin leads Grand Valley State in kills (320), hitting percentage (.285), solo blocks (22), and total blocks (111). She ranks fourth in the GLIAC in blocks per set (1.09), sixth in hitting percentage, and eighth in kills per set (3.14). Among GVSU all-time career records, Rapin is seventh in block assists (319), eighth in hitting percentage (.311), and ninth in total blocks (381). She needs 184 kills to enter the top-10 in Laker history in that category. In 2008, Rapin was also named to the All-GLIAC First Team, which followed a 2007 season in which she was named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year and the Midwest Regional Freshman of the Year. She is the 14th player in GVSU history to be named to the All-GLIAC First Team twice in her career.
A two-year starter after transferring from Michigan State, Tremain earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors, her first such conference award. She is second on the team in kills (310), digs (195), and hitting percentage (.214), and fourth in blocks (60). Tremain ranks seventh in the GLIAC in kills per set (3.20) and is also in the top-20 in hitting percentage and blocks per set (0.62).
Crichton was tabbed as an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention selection for the second consecutive season. Arguably the Lakers' best all-around player, she ranks second on the team in service aces (26), fourth in digs (183) and assists (49), fifth in hitting percentage (.140), sixth in kills (59), and seventh in blocks (16). Her 0.37 aces per set places her fifth in the conference.
