Allendale, Mich. - After a strong regular season, the Grand Valley State volleyball team qualified for the 2012 GLIAC Tournament and earned the #3 seed in this week's tournament. GVSU will take on Hillsdale on Wednesday night in a 7:00 p.m. match in Fieldhouse Arena. The Lakers and Chargers met on Saturday afternoon in Allendale, with GVSU earning a 3-1 victory.
It is the 16th consecutive season that Grand Valley State has advanced to the conference tournament. The Lakers are 23-6 overall and 13-5 in GLIAC play, finishing third in the North Division. GVSU also placed third in the entire conference. Hillsdale is 15-14 overall and 11-7 in conference matches, as the Chargers enter the tournament as the league's #6 seed.
Grand Valley State and Hillsdale split the two meetings this season, with each team winning on its home court. The Chargers won by a 3-1 score in Hillsdale on Sept. 14 in both teams' first conference match of the year. This past Saturday in Allendale, GVSU hit .389 offensively and won the final three sets in a 3-1 takedown of the Chargers.
The Lakers have advanced to the GLIAC Tournament 17 times in the 18 years of the tournament's existence, including every year since 1997.
