Bay City, Mich. - Grand Valley State senior outside hitter Whitney Tremain earned GLIAC North Division Player of the Week honors for her play over the weekend against Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech, as announced by the league offices on Monday (Nov. 9). Tremain hit .396 in the two matches with 25 kills and just four attack errors, while recording 16 digs, as the Lakers went 1-1 against the Upper Peninsula schools. It was the second time this season Tremain has won the award.
Against Northern Michigan on Friday night, Tremain totaled 11 kills and 12 digs, as the Wildcats defeated GVSU, 3-1. The Lakers bounced back for a 3-0 sweep of Michigan Tech on Saturday afternoon, as Tremain connected for 14 kills and a .500 hitting percentage in the victory. She has 298 kills on the year and recently surpassed the 500-kill mark during her two-year career at GVSU. Tremain also won the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week award on Sept. 28.
The Lakers have a re-match with Northern Michigan on Wednesday night (Nov. 11) at Fieldhouse Arena in a first-round GLIAC Tournament match. GVSU and the Wildcats face off at 7:00 p.m. with the winner advancing to the GLIAC Final Four this weekend at a site to be determined.
