Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State's junior Sabrina Bird was named GLIAC Player of the Week after leading the Lakers to a 3-0 sweep of Ferris State on Saturday to take over first place in the North Division. Bird led the Lakers with 11 kills, a career high .647 attack percentage, and 8 blocks, including a career high seven block assists. Grand Valley is ranked #4 in the AVCA Top 25 and #1 in the Great Lakes Region. The Lakers are 24-2 overall and 15-1 in the GLIAC North and will travel to #16 Northwood on Friday with a chance to wrap up a share of the regular season title.
Bird leads the Lakers and is second in the GLIAC averaging 1.30 blocks per game. Sabrina is second on the team in kills averaging 2.73/game and service aces with 40. It is the first ever GLIAC Player of the Week award for Bird, but the third time GVSU has earned the honor this season. Nicole Bayle received the honor on Sept. 19 while Carly Miller was named POW on Nov. 4.
