Nov. 3, 2008

Bay City, Mich. - Senior middle blocker Danielle Alexander was named the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week on Monday (Nov. 3) for the third time this season. Alexander led the Lakers to a pair of GLIAC home victories over the weekend, totaling 24 kills and a .447 hitting percentage. It is the sixth time in her career that Alexander has been named the league's player of the week.

With 3-0 wins over Saginaw Valley State and Lake Superior State over the weekend, GVSU tied a pair of school records. The Lakers have won 22 consecutive matches, tying the 2001 school record, and recorded 30 straight wins at home, which ties the 2000-01 program record.

Alexander led the Lakers in both kills and hitting percentage and added five blocks over the weekend. In the win over SVSU, she recorded nine kills, a .368 attack mark, three digs, two block assists, and two assists. She capped off the weekend with a match-high 15 kills, only one attack error, a .500 hitting percentage, and three blocks in the victory over Lake Superior State.

In the win over LSSU, Alexander moved into a tie for second place with 345 block assists and is now 10th all-time with 1,038 career kills.

Alexander ranks second in the GLIAC in points (4.04), fourth in hitting percentage (.336), fifth in blocks (1.14), and seventh in kills (3.14). Her 100 block assists ranks third in the conference.

The Lakers head to the Upper Peninsula this weekend for matches at Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan. Earlier this season, GVSU played five-set matches against both teams at Fieldhouse Arena. With victories, Grand Valley State, which is 25-2 overall and 14-0 in the league, can secure its first undefeated GLIAC season since 1976.
