Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley finishes out the 2002 regular season home schedule with a huge match against Ferris State on Friday at 7:00 pm in the GVSU Fieldhouse. Both teams enter the match tied for first place with 14-1 records in GLIAC play. GVSU is 23-2 on the season while Ferris is 23-3. The Lakers are #1 in the Great Lakes region and fourth in the country, while FSU is second in the region and #21 in the latest AVCA Top 25.

The Laker's only loss in its last 21 matches came at the hands of the Bulldogs 3-2 (30-28, 24-30, 26-30, 30-14, 15-5) on October 8th in Big Rapids. GVSU's only regular season GLIAC losses over the past two seasons have been at Ferris State as the Lakers have tallied a 31-2 mark in conference matches. However, Grand Valley holds a 43-32 edge in the all-time series against Ferris and the Lakers have won eight straight matches at home against the Bulldogs including a 3-0 sweep a year ago. Also, the Lakers have won seven straight matches including five consecutive sweeps since their last defeat to Ferris. Their 16-game winning streak is the second longest in school history behind a 22-game winning streak in 1987.
