Sept. 11, 2008
Allendale, Mich. - The Grand Valley State Lakers volleyball team has announced Sept. 20 as its 'Alumni vs. Alumni' Day. GVSU head coach Deanne Scanlon is urging former players to attend the all-day event and compete against each other before rooting on the current team in an afternoon GLIAC match. The get-together coincides with Grand Valley State's 40-year celebration of women's athletics.
All volleyball alumni in attendance should show up at GVSU Fieldhouse Arena at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The players will be split into two teams for a match being billed as 'Alumni vs. Alumni'. All former Laker players will receive a t-shirt for attending the event. Past and present players will have time to chat and catch up, including tailgating, prior to the #10 Lakers' match against GLIAC North Division rival Northern Michigan at 4:00 p.m.
After GVSU battles the Wildcats on the court, the volleyball alums are encouraged to attend that night's football game at Lubbers Stadium between the #2 Lakers and Ferris State at 7:00 p.m.
For those interested in attending the all-day event, contact coach Scanlon at (616) 331-3339 or at scanlond@gvsu.edu.
