#1-seeded Grand Valley State defeated #8 seeded Charleston, 3-0 (30-12, 30-28, 30-23) Friday night in the first round of the Great Lakes Regional Tournament. GVSU improves to 27-6 overall. The Lakers will play #5-seeded Northern Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
Grand Valley tallied a .204 hitting percentage as a team, while Charleston hit just .025 on the match. The Lakers tallied a 30-12 game one win on .256 hitting, while Charleston hit -.081. GVSU came back and won game two, 30-28 and sealed the win with a 30-23 win.
Junior Tracy Kirk tallied 13 kills, a .370 hitting percentage, and four assisted blocks to lead the Lakers. Junior Tina Tromblay added 13 kills, 10 digs, and two assisted blocks, while redshirt freshman Alyson Riley posted a team-high 18 digs. Sophomore Molly Young added 12 digs, while junior Lauren Hanson recorded five kills, four digs, one solo and three assisted blocks.
GVSU tallied two solo and 14 assisted blocks, eight service aces, and 43 kills on the match.
#6-seeded Northwood will play #7-seeded Southern Indiana in the other semifinal match at 5:00 p.m. in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
