Grand Valley State defeated Northwood, 3-0 (30-24, 30-28, 30-26) to win the GLIAC Tournament Championship title. The title marks the third in school history. GVSU also won the GLIAC Tournament Championship in 2002 and 2000.

Northwood scored the first point of game one, but GVSU rallied back to take a 10-2 lead. The Lakers hit .293 to take a 30-24 game one win. The two teams battled back and forth in game two until the Timberwolves took a three point lead (27-24). Grand Valley scored the next three out of four points to trail 28-27, when a crucial play in the game occurred. A call that went for the Timberwolves was overturned, tying the match at 28-28. After the play, a red card was issued to the Northwood coach, giving the Lakers game point (29-28). Tina Tromblay and Meghan Moore sealed the game with a block to give the Lakers a 30-28 game two win.

Northwood took a 11-9 lead in game three before the Lakers came back to tie it at 15-15. GVSU went ahead by four points, but the Timberwolves tied it back at 24-24. Grand Valley scored the next six out of eight points to win game three 30-26.

The Lakers were led by GLIAC Tournament MVP senior middle blocker Tracy Kirk who tallied 12 kills, three digs, and two assisted blocks, while hitting .522. Junior middle blocker Meghan Moore recorded 13 kills, three digs, two solo and three assisted blocks as she hit .308.

Junior outside hitter Megan Helsen posted nine kills, five digs, and five service aces and senior outside hitter Tina Tromblay added six kills, 12 digs, three aces, and one solo and four assisted blocks.
 

 

Grand Valley State had three players named to the 2005 GLIAC Volleyball All-Tournament Team. Junior outside hitter Megan Helsen, junior middle blocker Meghan Moore, and senior middle blocker Tracy Kirk were all named to the All-Tournament Team. Kirk was named the tournament MVP.

With the win, the Lakers claimed the league's automatic bid to the Great Lakes Regional Tournament. The teams and schedule will be announced late Sunday night.
