Grand Valley State defeated Michigan Tech, 3-1 (22-30, 30-23, 30-21, 32-30) Friday night in Houghton, Mich. The Lakers improve to 22-4 overall and 14-1 in GLIAC play, while the Huskies fall to 9-15 and 5-9. Grand Valley will continue its four match stint on the road at Northern Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 4:00 p.m.

The Huskies came out strong, winning game one, 30-22, but the Lakers battled back to win games two and three, 30-23 and 30-21. The two teams fought back and forth in game four and GVSU pulled out the 32-30 win to take the match.

Grand Valley State was led by junior outside hitter Megan Helsen who recorded a match-high 18 kills, five assist, two aces, 12 digs, and a solo and two assisted blocks. Junior middle blocker Meghan Moore added 14 kills, a .379 hitting percentage, four aces, and three assisted blocks, while senior middle blocker Tracy Kirk tallied 13 kills, three digs, and three assisted blocks.

Redshirt freshman Jamie Ashmore recorded 28 assists and 18 digs, while freshman Kelly Hogan posted 15 assists and six digs.
