#11 Grand Valley State defeated #13 North Alabama, 3-0, in the last match of the Days Inn Classic Sunday. The Lions battled hard, but the Lakers were impressive as they won, 30-24, 30-24, 30-26.
GVSU was led by senior Sabrina Bird, who tallied 11 kills, 17 total attacks, four blocks, and a .529 attack percentage. Stephanie Maciasz recorded a team-high 14 kills, 25 attacks and two blocks. Tracy Kirk had a solid game, as she added 13 kills, 33 total attacks and five digs. Molly Young tallied a team-high 12 digs and Nicole Bayle added 41 assists, seven kills, 13 total attacks, eight digs, and a .462 attack percentage.
The Lakers finish the Days Inn Classic with a 3-1 record and improve to 6-2 on the season. GVSU's only loss of the tournament came to #24 Wheeling Jesuit and the Lakers will seek revenge as they travel to Ft. Mitchell, Kent. on Sept. 12 for a rematch.
