Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State defeated Soutwest State (Minn.) 3-1 (30-15, 30-26, 26-30, 30-21) in the last match of the 2002 Days Inn Classic at GVSU. The Lakers ended the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record and are now 6-1 on the season.

The Lakers were led by Carly Miller who tallied a season high 24 kills with a .380 attack percentage. Sabrina Bird recorded 14 kills and Elisa Joris and Tracy Kirk added 12 kills apiece. Chara Fehsenfeld and Traci Skrzypek led the defense with 19 and 17 digs respectively.

Grand Valley, ranked #8 in the AVCA Top 25, hosts the GLIAC/GLVC Showdown next weekend on September 13 and 14 at the GVSU Fieldhouse.
