Grand Valley State ended the Radisson Riverfront Classic with a 3-0 (30-23, 30-26, 33-31) win over South Dakota. GVSU improves to 5-3 overall. The Lakers will play in the GLIAC vs. GLVC Tournament held in Wheeling, West Virginia on Sept. 10-11.
The Lakers took game one, 30-23, behind their .448 attack percentage. GVSU hit .344 in game two, picking up a 30-26. Grand Valley fought hard in game three, winning 33-31. GVSU was down by as many as seven points (22-29) in the third game, but battled off seven game points to seal the 33-31 win.
There were very few errors in the match by either team as the Lakers hit .349 on the match and South Dakota tallied a .324 attack percentage.
Senior Stephanie Maciasz-Dow led GVSU with 10 kills, a .500 attack percentage, and three assisted blocks. Junior Lauren Hanson recorded a team-high 12 kills, 30 total attacks, and two assisted blocks. Sophomore Molly Young tallied a match-high 14 digs, while junior Tracy Kirk hit .357 and had three assisted blocks. Senior Leah Kunz posted 22 assists, while junior Michele Ehrlich added 21.
