Allendale, Mich. - Ninth-ranked Grand Valley State served up a pair of wins Saturday at the North Alabama Invitational, including an impressive 3-0 win over eighth-ranked North Dakota State. GVSU opened the day with a 3-0 victory over Henderson State. The Lakers will continue play in Florence, Alabama Sunday with a match versus sixth-ranked North Alabama.
Seniors Carly Miller and Chara Fehsenfeld led the attack in the Lakers' 3-0 (30-27, 30-26, 33-31) win over NDSU. Miller recorded 12 kills, 18 digs and hit .250, while Fehsenfeld chipped in 12 kills and 10 digs. Junior Nicole Bayle added 33 assists and seven kills, while senior Traci Skrzypek tallied 11 digs. GVSU hit .223 as a team, while limiting NDSU to a .161 attack percentage. In the first match Saturday, GVSU dominated Henderson State 3-0 (30-14, 30-16, 30-25). Fehsenfeld recorded 11 kills and hit .529, while Bird tallied 11 kills with a .600 attack percentage. GVSU hit .441 as a team and notched 13 service aces.
