#7 Grand Valley State suffered its first loss of the season after falling, 3-2, to #12 West Texas A&M. The Lakers finish the Lady Buff Classic with a 3-1 record.

GVSU won game one, 30-25, and then dropped the next two games, 30-28 and 30-25. The Lakers then came back to tie the match at 2-2, by winning game four 31-29. West Texas A&M led game five 14-11, but GVSU scored four consecutive points to take a 15-14 lead. However, the Lady Buffs tallied the next three points to seal the victory.

Tracy Kirk led the Lakers with a match-high 23 kills. Nicole Bayle had a match-high 62 assists and also added 23 digs and nine kills. Sabrina Bird tallied 16 kills and seven assisted blocks.

Megan Helsen recorded 13 kills and 10 digs, while Stephanie Maciasz tallied eight kills and seven assisted blocks. Lauren Hanson had 11 kills and five assisted blocks and Molly Young added 19 digs. Katie Horvath had nine digs for the Lakers.

Bayle and Bird were selected to the Lady Buff Classic All-Tournament Team for their outstanding play during the tournament.

GVSU will make their debut at home as they host the Days Inn Classic September 5-7.
