#10 Grand Valley State recorded a 3-1 win over defending National Champion #4 North Alabama Friday night in the North Alabama Classic in Florence, Ala. The Lakers improve to 1-1 on the season and will play #22 Pittsburg State at 2:00 p.m. and Southern Arkansas at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
All four games were close as GVSU picked up game one, 30-28, UNA won game two 32-30, and the Lakers sealed the match by winning game three, 30-26, and game four, 33-31.
Grand Valley was led by junior Lauren Hanson who tallied a team-high 20 kills, 33 attacks and had an outstanding .545 attack percentage. Hanson also added one solo and four assisted blocks. Sophomore Molly Young recorded a team-high 14 digs, while junior Michele Ehrlich added 10. Junior Tracy Kirk posted 12 kills and three assisted blocks, while freshman Cortney Lokker added 12 kills, nine digs, and a .400 attack percentage in her debut as a Laker.
GVSU tallied 11 total blocks, to UNA's six and added seven aces, while the Lions had just three.
