Hoeve and Antvelink Receive Verizon Academic Honors
 

 
 
 

 
Senior Nick Hoeve placed 11th at the 2003 Indoor National Championships.

Senior Nick Hoeve was named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District IV Men's Track/Cross Country First Team. He has compilied a 3.79 GPA in Biomedical Science.

Hoeve placed 11th at the NCAA DII National Championships in Boston, Mass. with a throw of 53-5.00 in the weight throw. It was his first time competing in the NCAA Championships. Hoeve also is the GLIAC Champion in the hammer throw. During his career at Grand Valley, Hoeve has led the Lakers to four GLIAC Indoor Championships and two Outdoor GLIAC titles.

Shannon Antvelink earned 2003 Verizon Academic All-District IV Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team honors for her 3.59 GPA in English.

Antvelink earned Cross Country All-American honors, placing 14th and was top finisher on team that finished 3rd at NCAA Nationals. She was the GLIAC Individual Cross Country Champion and led team to the GLIAC title. In indoor track, she was a national qualifier in the mile and 5K and in outdoor in the 1500, 3K, 5K. She was a member of the 2002-03 indoor track team that placed seventh at NCAA National Championships and the 2003 outdoor team that placed 10th at the National Championships. Shannon has helped the Lakers win three GLIAC Indoor, three GLIAC Outdoor, and two GLIAC CC Championships.
