Walnut, Calif. - Mary Bogner headlined the 14 Grand Valley State University student-athletes that earned All-American honors after the NCAA Outdoor National Championships. Bogner picked up All-American plaudits in both the discus and the javelin, while Bryant Wilson cleared 17' in the pole vault to claim a national championship and All-American status.
Bogner finished fifth in the javelin and eighth in the discus to earn her honors. On the women's side, she was joined by three other field athletes. Dianna Noonan picked up a second place finish in the pole vault, and both Kathie Posa and Emily Fox grabbed All-American honors in the hammer throw. Posa finished fourth in the event while Fox was eighth. In the track events, both Candice Wheat and Katherine McCarthy were named All-Americans after finishing second in the their respective events. Wheat crossed the finish line second in the 100-meter hurdles, while McCarthy did the same thing in the 800-meter event. Kelly Gibbons was the seventh All-American for the GVSU women's track and field team, finishing eight in the 1500-meter run.
Wilson's national championship was the top finish for the men, followed by a third-place finish by Nate Peck in the 5000-meter run. Nick Polk and Ryan Holm both earned All-American honors in the 10k run, finishing fourth and eighth, respectively. Two sixth-place finishers also earned All-American plaudits for GVSU. Mike Stowe finished sixth in the decathlon, while Chris Hammer picked up a sixth-place finish in the steeplechase. Curtis Barclay also earned All-American honors in the steeplechase, finishing seventh.
