Grand Valley State's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will have seven athletes competing at the 2004 Outdoor Track & Field National Championships held May 27-29, at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, California. Five Laker women and two men will represent GVSU at the championships.

On the women's side, junior Steph Kuhlman will be competing in both the 1500m and 800m, while junior Natalie Ewing will run both the 3,000m and 5,000m. Junior Krista O'Dell also qualified for two events and will be racing in the 1,500m and 3,000m. Sophomore Ashley Thomas will run the 400m and freshman Jennifer O'Shesky will be making her national championship debut as she competes in the 400m hurdles.

Sophomore Kenny Coleman qualified in the 400m and freshman John Ybarra will compete in the shot put.

"This will be a great opportunity for our squad to compete against the best student-athletes in the nation," said Laker head coach Jerry Baltes. "We feel our women can place well as a team if we compete up to our ability."
