Grand Valley State sent two athletes to the Stanford University Invitational in California over the weekend, while pole vaulters Rachel Duthler and Lindsey Jones went to Baylor.

Duthler set a new school record and a NCAA Division II leading mark in the pole vault with a jump of 12'1". The jump won her the competition and was an outdoor all-time best for her.

At the Stanford Invitational, two Lakers posted NCAA Qualifying marks. Sophomore Jenn O'Shesky finished fourth place in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 62.36. She also posted a qualifying time of 14.63 in the 100 meter hurdles. Senior Krista O'Dell ran a lifetime best and a qualifying time of 4:30.30 in the 1,500 meter.

"This was a great opportunity for our student-athletes to gain some valuable experience in a big competition while gaining some great confidence with fast times," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "The distance runners came prepared to race fast and the meet atmosphere, coupled with the great field, allowed for us to post fast times."

"We will look to focus our training on the national championships in late May with the group of athletes that hit qualifiers," Baltes added. "This will be a great advantage from a training perspective for our student-athletes."

The Lakers will compete at the Northwest Invitational in Maryville, Missouri on Saturday, April 2.
