ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's track and field team won 10 events at the GVSU Holiday Open on Friday (Dec. 14) evening, including notching 11 NCAA Division II qualifying marks.
Leading the way for the Lakers was senior Sam Lockhart (Lansing, Mich./Sexton). Lockhart won both the shot put (15.20m) and weight throw (20.88m) with NCAA Division II automatic qualifying marks in both, guaranteeing her spots in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in both those events.
Also hitting qualifying marks in the throws were senior Jamie Smith (Hickory Corners, Mich./Gull Lake), who hit a provisional qualifying mark with her second place performance of 18.45 meters in the weight throw, junior Alyssa Zokoe (Coopersville, Mich.) who finished third with a toss of 18.09 meters in the weight throw and redshirt freshman Laura Schroeder (Sanford, Mich./Meridian), who finished fifth in the weight throw with a provisional qualifying throw of 16.26 meters.
Junior Kristen Hixson (Remus, Mich./Chippewa Hills) hit her first of what should be many qualifying marks this indoor season, winning the pole vault with a provisional mark of 3.79 meters.
The final qualifying mark of the day in the field events was captured by junior Alisha Weaver (Dimondale, Mich./Holt), whose first place performance in the high jump was thanks to a provisional mark of 1.69 meters.
Junior Brittney Jackson (Highland Hts., Ohio/Laurel) hit a provisional qualifying mark in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.69 seconds, good enough to win the event.
In the 60 meter hurdles, junior Kalena Franklin (West Branch, Mich./Ogemaw Heights) won the event with a time of 8.52 seconds, a provisional qualifying mark but not an improvement over the 8.48 second mark she ran at the GVSU Laker Early Bird. Franklin also had a third place finish in the 200 meter dash (25.81).
The final individual runner to hit a provisional qualifying mark was junior Lisa Galasso (Orion, Mich./Lake Orion), whose winning time of 2:15.11 in the 800 meter run was good enough for a provisional mark.
The 4x400 meter relay team of freshman Brittany Terry (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood), Galasso, junior Andrea Kober (Conklin, Mich./Sparta) and Franklin hit a provisional qualifying time of 3:53.91 en route to a victory in their event.
A pair of Lakers won their events but did not quite reach qualifying marks, as freshman Allison Rogutich (Union, Ill./Marengo) won the triple jump (10.40m) and Terry, who helped the 4x400 relay team to a victory, won the 400 meter dash (59.42).
Other top finishers included sophomore Allison Clark (Jackson, Mich./Hanover-Horton) with a second place finish in the 400 meter dash (1:01.04), junior Ashlyn Howell (Fenton, Mich./Lake Fenton) with a second place finish in the triple jump (9.81m), sophomore Jordyn Kiser (Reese, Mich.) with a second place finish in the high jump (1.66m) and Aileen Lemanski (Florence, Wis.) with a second place finish in the 200 meter dash (25.70).

The Lakers will now take the holidays off before returning to the Kelly Family Sports Center on January 11th and 12th for the Bob Eubanks Open.
