San Angelo, Tex. - Grand Valley State's women's track and field team moved into third place after day two of the NCAA Division II Championships in San Angelo, Texas on Friday (May 23). The Lakers are just one point out of second place, having totaled 17 points heading into Saturday's final day of competition.

After two days of events, the host school Angelo State leads the competition on the women's side with 40 points, while Lincoln is second with 18 points. GVSU is third with 17 points, while Fort Valley State and UC San Diego sit in a tie for fourth place with 16 points apiece after seven scored events.

Senior Dianna Noonan notched eight points for Grand Valley State in the pole vault, totaling a 4.04 meter jump. She finished in second place for the Lakers. In the same event, freshman Jocelyn Kuksa took home a fifth-place finish with a jump of 3.84 meters. That effort tallied four points for GVSU. Newcomer Lauren Buresh recorded a fourth-place tally in the shot put, with a throw of 14.32 meters, which brought the Lakers five more points.

Three GVSU track athletes qualified for the final events on Saturday. Junior Katherine McCarthy finished second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:10.40. In the 100 meter hurdles, junior Candice Wheat used a time of 13.43 to notch a fourth-place tally. Sophomore Megan Maceratini qualified with a sixth-place finish in the 5000 meter run with a time of 17:20.87. Junior Eileen Creutz narrowly missed out on qualifying in the same vent, as her time of 17:43.98 left her one spot shy of the finals, as she finished in 13th place.

On the men's side, freshman Matt Armstrong finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 16.56 meters, falling just short of scoring points for the Lakers.
