Walnut, Calif. - All events at the first day of the NCAA Outdoor National Championships were delayed by three hours due to heavy rain. The championships, taking place at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif., had preliminary running events and one field event, as well as the beginning of the heptathlon. Grand Valley State did not score any points, but did qualify all three of its runners in the 1500-meter event.

GVSU sent three student-athletes to the national meet to compete in the 1500 and qualified all three of them for the finals. Rebecca Winchester led the way for the Lakers, qualifying with an eighth-place finish and a time of 4:34.57. Katie Alfredson was next, taking 10th place with a time of 4:35.16. Kelly Gibbons was the final GVSU qualifier, coming in 12th place with a time of 4:35.75.
